Meet Stephen Lawrie
Sitka, Alaska painter Stephen Lawrie is a native New Zealander who began painting at a young age. Lawrie first visited Alaska in 1973 and moved to the state permanently three years later. He has been working as a commercial fisherman out of Sitka since 1977, but now focuses on his art. He paints using acrylic combined with graphite pencil and has a special talent for painting portraits. He uses his art as an avenue for personal expression and growth. Lawrie’s work is on display at the Sitka Rose Gallery and at the Alaska State Museum in Juneau.
